Battery high throughput equipment is an essential part of a battery research laboratory that helps improving reproducibility and research efficiency. Using automated and high throughput equipment reduces errors during cell assembling as well as saving assembling time. MTI proposes a wide variety of coin or pouch cell high throughput and automated equipment with a possibility of customization.

 

Coin cell preparation

 

MSK-HT-64 is a 16-channel high-throughput automatic crimper for CR2016, CR2025, and CR2032 coin cells. It can process 16 coin cells within 15 minutes with pre-loaded components. The crimping system is controlled by a computer to achieve consistent results for 16 cells per batch and quickly explore the best battery material. The device can be used inside a glovebox, it is Ar gas compatible. One Laptop computer is included, which controls all operations with a dedicated software.

  • Four pieces of module tray with dimensions 265 mm ×232 mm are included.  Each tray can pre-load 16 sets of coin cell components, such as case & spring, cathode, separator, anode disc, and cover.
  • The manipulator will pick up the component of the coin cell and put it into a crimping die in sequence.

 

 

  • The electric syringe pump will automatically inject electrolytes
  • The electric crimper will seal the coin cell in the desired pressure
  • Pressure adjustment range: 0 – 1.4 metric tons
  • 16 coin cells will be put back into the tray after being sealed
  • Assembling speed:  ~120 seconds per cell

 

 

MSK-HTBA  is an automatic coin cell assembling system for high throughput battery material research, which can handle 8 kinds of battery cathode and anode electrodes and 2 kinds of electrolytes. The system is capable of assembling 64 cells per hour in dual size glove-box with controlled atmosphere.

Pouch cell preparation

 

Pouch cell automatic pilot line is capable of doing all the operations for pouch cell preparation, as well as automatically transfer materials between various stages to ensure battery cell production consistency.

The system includes :

  • Double side Dust removal
  • CCD (Charge Coupled Device) positioning/inspection
  • Tab welding
  • Automatic adhesive application (tapping)
  • Short circuit testing
  • Battery cell heat sealing & Hi-pot testing
  • Pre-welding and cutting of cathode and anode tabs
  • Final welding of tabs & shape adjustments
  • Cell insertion
  • Cell filling, standing, pre-sealing
  • OCV (Open-Circuit Voltage) testing & internal resistance testing
  • Air-tightness testing
  • Automatic feeding

 

The pouch cell line is fully sealed with internal air circulation for ultra-low dew point atmosphere. Research grade Manufacturing Execution System (MES) supervisory control software is built-in to achieve precise process and environmental parameters, as well as data traceability. There is a possibility of customization.
